Inbhéartú

The Inbhéartú (inverted) coffee table was an opportunity to refine my woodworking skills and explore the structural and aesthetic potential of traditional joinery. I used a combination of beech, ash, oak, and purpleheart to play with material contrast and visual weight while maintaining a clean, balanced form. Influenced by mid-century design principles, the table features inverted legs that create a distinctive silhouette without compromising stability. I developed a custom jig to ensure precise leg positioning, which helped me better understand the geometry involved in angled construction. By using a range of joints — including butt, lap, mitre, and a tusk tenon — I built confidence in working with hardwoods and gained a deeper appreciation for how subtle design decisions shape both structural integrity and the language of a piece.
